Upcoming Union Church Concert
On Sunday afternoon, April 6th, 4:00 p.m., at The Union Church of Bay Ridge, pianist Elena Antimova will present a recital of works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Janácek. Ms. Antimova will play Beethoven’s Sonata in C major, op. 53 (“Waldstein”), Chopin’s Sonata in B minor, op 58, and Two Nocturnes, op. 62, as well as Czech composer Leoš Janácek’s In the Mists.

Having started playing piano at the age of four, Elena Antimova gave her first solo recital at age six in her native Bulgaria. She received piano honors and awards from several national competitions and premiered piano music by American composers at the Third Annual Festival of American Music in Sofia, Bulgaria. As the Special Prize winner of The First National Piano Competition for Contemporary American Music she was highly acclaimed by critics. As a solo and chamber musician she has performed at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall, Klavierhaus, The National Arts Club, and CAMI Hall. She has studied with Claude Franck, Roland Keller, Paolo Police, Victor Chuchkov, Gilbert Kalish, Thomas Sauer and Luiz de Moura Castro at various master classes, as well as with Tong-Il Han, Claude Labelle, Maria-Clodes Jaguaribe and Anthony di Bonaventura at the Tanglewood Music Festival.
Ms. Antimova holds the Bachelor of Music from Brooklyn College, where she is currently completing her Master of Music as a piano student of Michael Rogers. She performed as a soloist with the Conservatory Orchestra under Ken Selden as the winner of the 2005 Concerto Competition.
This concert continues the series of free concerts that began at Union Church in February 2004. A free-will offering is taken at each concert in support of music at Union Church. The next concert in the series will be full performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria during the regular 11 AM worship on Sunday, April 27, under the direction of Vincent Peterson, Minister of Music.
