Our Education Program

Sunday School

Sunday church school for children ages 3 and up takes place during 11am worship, downstairs in the Sanctuary building at 80th Street and Ridge Boulevard. The Sunday School program is designed for a range of ages and attention spans, backed up by a caregiver on staff for the young and the restless. All children are welcome to participate in the church service and/or attend Sunday School.

Curriculum

Union Church uses Seasons of the Spirit, the next generation of The Whole People of God. It is an inclusive, flexible, grass-roots curriculum that transcends denominations and spans generations. click here for a link to explore www.spiritseasons.com. All adults and youth are encouraged to take a turn at teaching Sunday school. Seasons of the Spirit is supportive and easy to follow, and teaching is a great way to connect across generations and learn more about the Bible.

Support Group for Parents of Children with Special Needs

Together with Parent to Parent of New York State www.parenttoparentnys.org, Union Church sponsors a monthly Monday support group for parents of children with special needs: contact Isabel Morales at 800.405.8818 moonmotherbelle@aol.com.

Yoga

Classes in gentle, restorative rasa yoga meet Monday and Wednesday evenings 6:45-8:15 pm including July and August.  There is no need to sign up in advance; classes are $15/week, pay as you go.  Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, bring a towel, and an extra towel or a yoga mat if you have one. Adult Bible Study during daylight hours

Union Church shares weekly Adult Bible Study, brown bag luncheon, service, and fellowship, on Wednesdays at 11 with Redeemer-St John's Lutheran Church, 939 83rd Street in Dyker Heights. To join the carpool to this event, email unionchurch@earthlink.net

Reflective Saturdays: Spiritual Growth, Prayer, and Fellowship

This relaxed, open, monthly spirituality group meets the third Saturday of each month from 9:00 to 10:30 am in the church Sanctuary, with childcare available in the downstairs playgroup area.  If you are too busy to take time out to reflect on your spirituality, then this is for you! There is a different theme each time; to be on the email notification list, email unionchurch@earthlink.net.

Sleep-Away Camp

Union Church also encourages children to go to camp and provides assistance to families whose children attend the Presbyterian Camp at Holmes, New York. (Union Church elder Victor Morales is the architect for Hayden House and renovations to Agape House including Charlotte's Room, the new worship and meditation space there.)
